Zheleznovodsk Local History Museum
About museum
In 1983 the executive committee of the City Council of People's Deputies decided to create a museum of the resort's history in Zheleznovodsk. On May 8, 1985 the museum's first exhibition, devoted to the Great Patriotic War and the town's residents, was opened. The museum is housed in an old mansion built in the 1870s and is located close to the sanatoriums and the therapeutic park. It tells about the pioneers who developed the resort, about ancient tribes that lived in the vicinity of Zheleznovodsk, and about their connections with Byzantium, India and China via the Great Silk Road. The museum displays household items, weapons, jewelry, horse harnesses, and also blacksmith tongs, scythes, sickles, hoes and axes made on the saddle of Mount Razvalka. It also presents information about caravans that passed through carrying goods from the East. All this makes the museum interesting and informative for residents and visitors of the spa town.
