Zavolzhsky City Art and Local History Museum
About museum
In 1986 the Zavolzhsky Museum was opened; in 2007 it was granted the status of a city monument. It is located in a building erected in 1908 by the owners of the chemical plant, the Burnaev-Kurochkin family. The Zavolzhsky Museum comprises four exhibitions, including the picture gallery named after People's Artist of Russia V. N. Telin (1941–2012). Here you can see works by leading artists of the Soviet realist school of painting, and also visit a unique exhibition dedicated to the well-known astronomer F. A. Bredikhin (1831–1904). The museum also features an exhibition on the history of the Zavolzhsky Chemical Plant, founded by the noble Filosofov family in 1871. It tells the story of the enterprise's more than 140-year history and includes documents, photographs and objects that testify to the pre-revolutionary and post-revolutionary periods. The peasant household room displays exhibits that recall the age-old traditions and customs of the people.
