Sergey Vladimirovich Obraztsov was a Soviet theatre figure, actor and director, and the founder of the Puppet Theatre in Moscow. Sergey Vladimirovich Obraztsov was born in Moscow into the family of academician Vladimir Obraztsov. He received his theatrical education at the Higher Art-Theatre Workshops and the music studio of the Moscow Art Theatre (MKhT). From 1922 he worked as an actor and director at the Moscow Art Theatre, performing alongside such well-known actors as Giazintova, Berseneva and Birman.
In 1931 Obraztsov founded his own puppet theatre, which he led for more than sixty years. He was also involved in pedagogy and from 1973 held the position of professor at GITIS. Obraztsov was president of the International Union of Puppeteers and made a significant contribution to the development of the theory and methodology of puppet theatre. Sergey Vladimirovich Obraztsov died on May 8, 1992 in Moscow and was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery.
