Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin was a world-renowned plant breeder, the creator of numerous new varieties of fruit and berry crops adapted to the harsh Russian climate. The future scientist was born into a noble family in the Ryazan Governorate. His ancestral estate was located in the village of Dolgoe, where gardening traditions developed, and this greatly influenced his later work. From an early age he showed an interest in horticulture and plant cultivation, and his work was devoted to improving and breeding new varieties of fruit trees and berry shrubs. Having overcome financial difficulties and adverse conditions, he developed effective methods of hybridization and established his own nursery in Turmasovo (now Michurinsk). This farm became his scientific laboratory, a place where many of his students and followers worked, and later a center of Russian breeding.
