Unecha Local History Museum
About museum
In 1987 the Unecha Local History Museum was opened in the town of Unecha, housed in a bank building constructed in 1930. In 1989 it received the status of a branch of the Bryansk State United Local History Museum. Its beginnings date back to 1967 in one of the halls of the 1 May Club, initiated by local historian and history teacher Sergey Grigoryevich Knoroz. The first director of the museum was Anatoly Vitalyevich Zhidenkov, thanks to whom four exhibition halls and an annex (which housed an exhibition hall and service rooms) were well arranged and opened. Today the exhibition halls cover about 300 sq. m, and the museum's collections contain more than 9,000 items. Each year the museum is visited by over 17,000 residents and guests of the town. Its activities are aimed at guided tours and exhibitions, scientific research, collection management, methodological work and scientific-educational outreach. The museum has rich ethnographic material and a numismatics collection of 250 storage units.
