Susanin Local History Museum
About museum
The formation of the Susanin Local History Museum began in the 1950s. On September 24, 1964, a decision was made to create a museum to perpetuate the memory of Ivan Susanin's feat and to educate the population in his patriotism. The museum included the place of Susanin's death, the trail, a chapel, and the site of Ivan Susanin's house. The museum was opened in 1967, and in 1972 the Resurrection Church was attached to it. Museum staff and N. V. Borisov collected materials on Susanin and other people who performed similar feats. In 2005 the museum became part of a museum association. Today the museum offers permanent exhibitions and art shows. All this allows visitors to learn about Ivan Susanin's feat and the history of the Kostroma region.
