Mozdok Local History Museum
About museum
Official founding date of the museum is March 27, 1970. On a voluntary basis it had already existed a year before that, and at the origins of such a noble undertaking were remarkable people: the history teacher Olga Stepanovna Stepanishcheva, retired Colonel Mikhail Vasilievich Artyukhov (who also became the first director) and Serafima Fedorovna Paltseva — the museum's keeper.
The exhibition includes separate sections devoted to the nature of the Mozdok district, its most ancient history reconstructed from archaeological research materials, the direct history of the founding of the Mozdok fortress and its development up to the beginning of the 20th century. Exhibition complexes dedicated to Mozdok's history in the 20th century form thematic sections on the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War and the contemporary history of the town.
The museum has repeatedly been awarded certificates of honor by the Ministries of Culture of the USSR, the RSFSR, and the RSO — Alania.
