In December 1921 the Kolyma Museum was opened. It was created after Soviet power was established in Kolyma, on the initiative of M. I. Kovynin, D. F. Daurov and N. V. Berezkin. It consisted of five departments: paleontology, mineralogy, history, biology, and numismatics.
