Smolensky Historical and Memorial Museum of A.P. Sobolev
About museum
In honor of the writer and World War II participant Anatoly Panteleevich Sobolev a museum was opened. He was born on May 6, 1926 in the village of Kytmanovo, Altai Krai, in the family of a party worker from a peasant background. In 1943 he volunteered for the front, and then served as a naval diver in the Northern and Baltic Fleets until 1950. Anatoly Sobolev is the only maritime writer who managed to convey his recollections of the service of sailor-divers during the war. He stood on the same level as V. Astafyev, V. Rasputin, V. Bykov, and E. Nosov, and was friends with them for many years. Sobolev attached special importance to his native Altai, and the main characters of his works were from that region. On June 28, 1986 Anatoly Panteleevich died in Moscow and was buried in the village of Smolenskoye, Altai Krai.
