Severo-Kurilsk Local History Museum

About museum

Flaviy Georgievich Sergeev, a teacher of Russian language and literature, became the founder of the local history museum in the town of Severo-Kurilsk. The search group "Alaid" tried to support this museum by involving veterans of the Great Patriotic War, as well as Hero of the Soviet Union Petr Ivanovich Shutov, a participant in the liberation of the Kuril Islands in 1945. The Museum of Military Glory operated at the Severo-Kurilsk school for more than ten years. During that time the museum received letters from various cities of Russia and other countries, as well as parcels containing items belonging to participants in the heroic events. All the local history and historical materials presented in the museum today are the result of long and hard efforts by people who love the Kuril Islands.
