About museum

The Saint Petersburg Oceanarium is a unique place, opened in 2006. It houses more than 4,000 individual animals and is located on an area of over 5,000 sq. m. There are 59 aquariums with a combined water volume of more than 1.5 million liters. There are also zones with themed exhibits, feeding demonstrations, and other attractions. In 2007 an educational center was opened here, where various environmental events, excursions and classes for schoolchildren are held. In addition, since 2008 the oceanarium has annually hosted the city museum competition "The Big Regatta" with the participation of museums and educational organizations from Saint Petersburg, as well as museums from other cities in Russia and abroad. Children have the opportunity to learn through play about history and culture, the sciences, and people, and to undertake projects.
