V. E. Borisov-Musatov Museum-Estate
About museum
In 2000 the memorial wing of the V. E. Borisov-Musatov estate was opened. The idea of creating a museum in this house appeared as early as 1922, initiated by the artist's middle sister, Agrippina Nemirova. In the 1920s the wing and the two-story house were included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of the Saratov province. In the 1930s the artist's name fell into oblivion and his work was labeled "bourgeois and decadent." The house became ordinary communal apartments, while the wing survived thanks to the construction of a furniture factory. In 1970 the artist turned 100; in 1973 exhibitions of his works were held in Moscow and Saratov, and in 1979 Konstantin Shilov's book "My Paints, Tunes..." was published. Thanks to his efforts the wing was saved from demolition. Today Beloglinskaya Street in Saratov has been renamed V. E. Borisov-Musatov Street, and the memorial wing invites visitors to remember the life and work of this great artist.
