Saint Petersburg Museum of Cats is a unique place that opened on December 20, 2008. It features a collection of more than 5,000 cat-related items: figurines, paintings, household objects, postcards and photographs. The museum also offers visitors opportunities to learn more about cats through tours, programs, riddles, proverbs and sayings, folk superstitions, poems and fables. Special attention is given to the Hermitage cats and the cats of Leningrad. In addition, a museum and tourist center for the Vsevolozhsky District is being formed at the museum, where visitors can learn about the district's attractions. The museum's goal is to promote humane treatment of animals.
