Shakhty Local History Museum
About museum
The Shakhty Local History Museum is housed in an old building, an architectural monument in the center of Shakhty. In 1896 the Alexandrovskaya parish school was opened here, which after 1907 was designated exemplary. The two-class school for 50 pupils operated until 1914, and after the First World War the building was continuously used for various children's institutions. In 1983 the Shakhty Local History Museum was opened in this building. It invites visitors to immerse themselves in a cozy atmosphere and to get acquainted with more than 13,920 items from its collection of numismatics, old icons, photographic sources, documents, household items, personal belongings of Shakhty residents, paintings and other exhibits. All of this is displayed in six halls of the museum, where past and present are closely intertwined. At the museum one can find inner peace and obtain a wealth of useful information about Shakhty.
