T. A. Kargin Homestead
About museum
T. A. Kargin Homestead is an architectural monument of the Upper Don associated with the life and work of M. A. Sholokhov. Here you can see how, in the early 20th century, the Cossack petty official (uryadnik) Timofey Kargin built a roller mill fitted with the latest equipment, as well as an oil mill, a metalworking workshop and a smithy. In 1911 he opened the cinema "Ideal". In the 1920s M. A. Sholokhov performed here as an actor and playwright. Some of the mill workers became prototypes for characters in his works, and the mill itself served as the model for the mill of the merchant Mokhov in the novel "And Quiet Flows the Don". Here you can see working equipment from the early 20th century, as well as the exhibition "Sholokhov's Heroes on Screen" with photographs, posters and period items. In the granary-barn there is the exhibition "The Concerns of the Cossack Farmer", introducing various types of agricultural crops and their processed products. Children can ride attractions based on old drawings and play games beloved by the Cossacks, while adults can take an interactive tour.
