Nature Department of the National Museum of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania
About museum
The Nature Department of the National Museum of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania became an independent department in 1942, when it was allocated space in the regional studies museum building. The department's exhibition included zoological, botanical, and paleontological collections. After the Great Patriotic War, the department was moved to the building of the Sunnit Mosque, where its exhibition space was significantly expanded. In 1969 it was returned to its former building, and since 1975 it has been housed on Lenin Street. The exhibition includes dioramas depicting various natural-climatic zones and the Republic's wildlife, as well as entomological, paleontological, and geological collections. The Nature Department is one of the centers for environmental education of the younger generation; a variety of events are held there that help develop a respectful and careful attitude toward nature.
