Orenburg Governor's Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
Orenburg Governor's Historical and Local Lore Museum was established in 1830 by the Orenburg military governor P. P. Sukhtelen. The purpose of creating the museum was to collect and accumulate previously scattered items in one place in order to better study the region. Today the museum is housed in a 19th-century building of regional significance. It presents exhibitions dedicated to the history of the city and the governorate, the economy, military history, education and science, as well as the nature of the Orenburg region. The museum displays material and spiritual cultural monuments of the area, archaeological, ethnographic and paleontological collections, herbaria, photographs, documents, books, religious objects, coins, medals and works of art.
