Kornilov Bastion Defensive Tower
About museum
On Sevastopol's Ship Side is the legendary Malakhov Kurgan — a unique historical site where monuments and memorial markers of the city's two defensive lines are combined. The main attraction is a 19th-century defensive tower that houses a museum dedicated to the defenders of Malakhov Kurgan during the Crimean War and the Great Patriotic War. The kurgan contains artillery barrels, old cast-iron cannons and armored turrets, as well as monuments and memorial plaques to V. A. Kornilov, P. S. Nakhimov and V. I. Istomin. There is also a monument on Malakhov Kurgan commemorating the pilots of the 8th Air Army who liberated Sevastopol in May 1944.
