Aldan Maadyr National Museum of the Republic of Tuva
About museum
The National Museum of Tuva is a research institution that serves as the main repository of the region's historical and cultural artifacts. The museum houses unique exhibits: the original copy of the first Tuvan primer, a fragment of a meteorite found on the Chenge River, a collection of ancient shamanic ritual items, and a Buddhist collection that includes clothing, sculptures, thangkas, musical instruments, and sutras. The museum also displays a large collection of cult objects from the Verkhnechadan khuree, transferred in 1956 by the last monk — for example, gold plates, a bronze plaque, jewelry, a burial log from the Arzhaan kurgan, and a model of the Arzhaan kurgan made from larch taken from the kurgan itself. In addition, the museum has an ancient Tuvan ethnographic collection including musical instruments and tools, as well as a collection of Tuvan stone carvings.
