Museum and Exhibition Complex "Kozlova Zaseka"
About museum
Near the Yasnaya Polyana estate is the Kozlova Zaseka railway station, which belonged to the defensive complex on Russia's southern border in the 16th-17th centuries. In the 1860s construction of the Moscow-Kursk railway began, and in 1868 the Kozlova Zaseka station was opened on the Tula section. Tolstoy regularly departed from here with his family for Moscow. The last time this happened was on August 15, 1910. A tragic event also took place at this station in November of the same year, when the funeral train carrying Tolstoy's body arrived. In 2001 the station was restored, which helped return it to its historic appearance. Today it is a museum-station complex that includes the platform, the station building, the exhibition "Leo Tolstoy's Railway", a souvenir shop and a car park. Guided tours of the exhibition and the station complex are also held.
