Open-Air Museum 'Zapovednye Kvartaly'
About museum
'Zapovednye Kvartaly' is an open-air museum located in the block around the Church of the Three Holy Hierarchs. Here you can see 28 wooden houses with unique architecture, where writers Maxim Gorky and Vladimir Korolenko once lived, where Fyodor Chaliapin sang, and where Anton Chekhov visited. In the quarter you can go on an immersive tour led by a postman, visit a street-art artist, play traditional historic games, taste baranki (ring-shaped tea biscuits) with tea from a samovar, and relax in a cozy garden. The quarter combines the manor-life traditions of the late 19th–early 20th centuries with modern tour technologies and immersive, interactive elements. Restoration work is currently underway on the wooden houses, manor gardens and grounds, as well as on the reconstruction of historical details. Nizhny Novgorod residents love their city and take an active part in transforming this unique quarter. Come to the quarter with friends and enjoy the full beauty of old Nizhny Novgorod!
