Panorama Museum "The Battle of Borodino"
About museum
The Panorama Museum "The Battle of Borodino" presents the history of the Patriotic War of 1812. The central exhibit — the artistic panorama "Borodino" — one of the largest panoramas in the world (115 m long and 15 m high), was painted by the outstanding Russian battle-painter Franz Roubaud in 1912, on the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino. A foreground model with terrain relief, special lighting and the circumferential placement of the pictorial canvas create for the viewer an illusion of real natural space and military events. The panorama depicts the decisive moment of the battle between the Russian and French armies near the village of Borodino on 7 September 1812.
In addition to the "Borodino" panorama, the museum houses an extensive collection of items from the era of 1812, including works of battle painting and decorative-applied arts, weapons, uniforms and equipment, and objects of military life of the Russian and French armies.
The Panorama Museum "The Battle of Borodino" and the "Kutuzov's Hut" museum, where the setting of the Military Council in Fili on 13 September 1812 has been reconstructed, occupy a central place in the historical-memorial complex of the Patriotic War of 1812 on Kutuzovsky Prospekt.
The museum organizes temporary exhibitions, offers general and thematic guided tours, and participates in citywide cultural events.
