Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812

\r\nIn 2009 the Government of the Russian Federation issued an order to construct the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812. On 4 September 2012 it was opened in the former building of the Moscow City Duma. The museum's collection includes household items and decorative and applied arts of that era, numismatic collections, paintings by V. Vereshchagin, D. Dow and other artists. Also on display are a letter of gratitude from Alexander I to the Moscow nobility, presentation rings, snuff boxes, award medals of participants in the Patriotic War and items belonging to military commanders — M. I. Kutuzov's samovar, the grand marshal's baton of P. Kh. Wittgenstein, N. Bonaparte's saber and more. The exhibition features historical rarities, works of art and multimedia exhibits. The museum has become a true memorial to the Patriotic War of 1812.
