Museum “Public Education in the Simbirsk Governorate in the 1870s–1880s”
About museum
The museum is located on one of the city’s oldest streets, formerly Panskaya, and occupies two mid-19th-century memorial buildings. The first houses a documentary exhibition dedicated to the formation and development of public education in the Simbirsk Governorate in the 1860s–1880s. The second contains a memorial exhibition of the First Women's Parish School — one of the city’s first primary schools. It formerly contained the apartments of the teacher, the matron and the watchman. A gymnastics complex is located in the schoolyard. This is the only museum in the country that tells the history of the development of mass and all-class (inclusive of all social estates) schooling in the second half of the 19th century.
