Museum of Merchant and Townspeople Life
About museum
In 1963, in accordance with regional plans, the Museum of Merchant and Townspeople Life was established. The museum building, constructed as a one-story mansion with a mezzanine and a basement, is an architectural and urban-planning monument of regional significance from the second half of the 19th century. It is located on the embankment of the Volga River near the pier for receiving cruise ships. In 2018 the museum building was restored; its area is 649 sq. m. The museum's main collection consists of 13,156 storage units, while the auxiliary collections comprise 968 items. In ten halls the museum presents information about the lives of merchants, townspeople, peasants and craftsmen. Here visitors can be transported to the past and feel the warmth and sincerity of the museum staff. It is included in cruise and recreational-educational tourist routes and receives tour groups from across the Volga region.
