In 2017 a private Kostroma Merchant Museum opened in the historic part of the city and held its first guided tour. The museum houses several exhibitions. For example, "Sleigh Yard", which displays a collection of sleighs and carts and offers an engaging tour on the history of horse-drawn transport. The museum also presents a collection of scales and weights titled "Merchants' Weighing Equipment." In "Kostroma and the Kostroma Merchants" visitors can learn about the history, traditions, and the spiritual and material culture of the old merchant city. The "Merchant Hall" features photographs, documents and household items, while "Pies by the Stove" explains the stove's construction and provides information on omens, superstitions and rituals. The museum offers workshops for visitors on making souvenirs, tea tasting and creating tea blends.
