About museum

The building of the “Beekeeping” pavilion was constructed in 1953. Initially it housed an exhibition dedicated to the bread industry; later the pavilion was used for temporary exhibitions, and in the 1970s it became home to the “Beekeeping” exhibition.
\r\n
\r\nAfter restoration in 2017 an environmental-education center “Beekeeping” opened in the pavilion, and in 2024 the pavilion was transferred to the Biological Museum.
\r\n
\r\nThe pavilion's exhibition tells the story of the relationship between people and bees from two perspectives — that of humans and that of the insects themselves. Here you can learn many interesting things not only about bees but also about other related insects. The life of a bee family and the development of individual bees are presented so that it becomes clear why bees need honey and how it is produced.
\r\n
\r\nYou can also learn how people have learned to make use of bees' characteristics and study the history of beekeeping from ancient times to the present day.
\r\n
\r\nThe pavilion features a large collection of museum pieces and makes extensive use of multimedia; a laboratory with microscopes is in operation, and guided tours are offered for visitors of all ages. In summer you can even observe live bees in a glass beehive.
