Oryol Local History Museum
About museum
The Oryol Local History Museum was founded in 1897 by the Oryol Scientific Archival Commission. In the post-Revolution period the museum absorbed parts of the collections of various museums and nationalized cultural valuables. During the Great Patriotic War (World War II) the museum collections were looted. In 2011, after a long hiatus, the museum's first exhibition devoted to the history of the Oryol region was opened. At present the museum consists of several sections, which include thematic exhibitions: "Collection", "Ethnography", "Famous People of the Oryol Region", "Orthodoxy", "History of Photography in the Oryol Region" and "Nature of the Oryol Region". In addition, the museum regularly hosts exhibitions of artistic, photographic and thematic works. Thus, the Oryol Local History Museum offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the history, culture and nature of the Oryol region.
