The Nizhny Novgorod Region is famous for its ancient and traditional artistic crafts, such as Khokhloma painting, Gorodets embroidery, painting and woodcarving, Kazakov filigree, Balakhna lace and others. In Nizhny Novgorod, on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, is the Museum of the History of Artistic Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, where you can see all this wealth. The museum houses almost 4,000 works of folk art that show the development of Nizhny Novgorod artistic crafts from the 17th to the 21st century. The museum features 19th-century architectural carving, three types of painting, artistic woodcarving, filigree, ceramic and metalworking crafts, folk toys, and stone- and bone-carving crafts. Visitors can see a peasant dwelling, a rural church, and a merchant's house.
