The museum hosts round tables, lectures, celebrations and other events. It has become a recognized center for the development and study of the history of the city of Volkhov and its surroundings.

\r\nOn 3 October 1969 the Museum of the History of the City of Volkhov was opened in the house of Genrikh Osipovich Graftio. It was built on the picturesque left bank of the Volkhov River according to the design of the chief engineer of the Volkhov Hydroelectric Power Station. From its windows and balcony one could get a clear view of the panorama of the power station's construction. The museum presents the main stages of the city's formation and development during the Soviet period. Visitors can learn about the construction of the Zvanka railway station, the memorial office of Genrikh Graftio, the construction of the Volkhov Hydroelectric Power Station, the aluminum plant, the Great Patriotic War and October Island. Today Graftio's house is a federal historical monument, and events are held there aimed at educating people and studying the history of the city and its surroundings.
