I. S. Turgenev Museum
About museum
In October 2009 the I. S. Turgenev Museum was opened, located in the house where the writer lived from 1840 to 1850 with his mother Varvara Petrovna. When Turgenev came to Moscow, he stayed with his mother and sometimes remained there for several months. In this "grey house with white columns" meetings of many well-known people of the 19th century took place, on which the characters of the story "Mumu" were later based. The museum features the exhibition "Moscow. Ostozhenka. Turgenev", which tells about the life and work of the writer, his era, his literary and social circle, his family, Moscow domestic life, and events connected with the Ostozhenka house. Here one can see items recalling Turgenev. A visit to the museum is an unforgettable and vivid journey into the past.
