Suzdal Museum of Wooden Architecture
About museum
In the 1960s–1970s the best examples of 18th–19th century wooden architecture, built without the use of nails, were brought to Suzdal. This approach is used worldwide because wood is a perishable material. Therefore monuments of wooden architecture are gathered in special open-air reserves, where they are kept under the watchful care of museum staff and restorers. As a result, an old "village" — a little island of Russian fairy tale — appeared in the center of Suzdal on the high bank of the Kamenka River. It houses architectural rarities of the 18th–19th centuries, wooden houses and windmills, and you can also find many interesting souvenirs. Various festivities are held here, such as Christmas, "Maslenitsa amusements", "Folk Crafts at Trinity (Pentecost)" and the "Cucumber Festival".
