On February 25, 2005, the Museum of Contemporary Visual Arts was opened in Rostov-on-Don. It was a significant event in the city's cultural life. The project was led by Elena Levina and Vyacheslav Davydenko. The museum was established as a non-profit institution whose purpose was to serve society and promote its development. To this end, the basic principles of museological practice were applied: collecting, preservation, and exhibition. The museum's collections consist of more than 1,800 works of painting and graphic art dating from the 1930s to the present. During its eight years of existence the museum held 100 exhibitions, including international projects and contemporary art projects. Thus, the Museum of Contemporary Visual Arts became an important center for promoting art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
