About museum

An old Kerzhatsky house, built in 1870 by the Old Believers family Cheremny, became the home for the Museum of Everyday Life and Crafts of the settlement of Visim. The house was erected following the rules of traditional Russian construction. An interesting feature of this house is the storage barns, which are located not only on the first floor but also on the second. There was a ramp from the first floor by which goods were brought in by horses. The museum opened in 2004 at the initiative of the chairman of the settlement council, M. N. Cheremny, and thanks to the efforts of Visim patriots. In 2009 it received official museum status. The museum exhibition presents tools and household utensils of the mountain-factory population of the 19th–20th centuries, items for decorating the home and running the household, and products of blacksmithing, carpentry, tinsmithing and other crafts. The daily life and crafts of the residents of the three famous Visim districts — Khokhlyatsky, Tulyatsky and Kerzhatsky — their traditions and way of life are showcased. Here you can also learn about the exhibition of the Visim Biosphere Reserve. Museum staff introduce visitors to the history, features of daily life, customs and traditions of the settlement of Visim. Carefully prepared and organized cultural and entertainment programs successfully fill both the main and 'free' time spent at the museum. These primarily include targeted guided tours of the museum that take into account the needs of various groups and categories of visitors.
