On November 15, 1979, the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology was opened at the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East. The origins of its establishment are associated with academician A. I. Krushanov and well-known scholars specializing in the archaeology and ethnography of the southern Far East: Zh. V. Andreeva, E. V. Shavkunov, Yu. A. Sem, as well as institute staff Yu. E. Vostretsov, Yu. M. Vasiliev and A. F. Startsev.
