Moscow State Art Gallery of People's Artist of the USSR A. Shilov
About museum
A. Shilov Gallery was established in 1996 by decrees of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Government on the basis of a gratuitously donated collection of paintings and graphic works presented to the homeland by People's Artist of the USSR and Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts A. Shilov. The gallery opened on May 31, 1997 in a building constructed in 1829 to a design by the Russian architect E. Tyurin. In 2003 a new building was erected to a design by architect M. Posokhin, forming a unified architectural and artistic complex with the historic mansion. Today the gallery's collection consists of more than 1,650 works of painting and graphics, widely represented across a range of genres, from folk images to portraits, landscapes and still lifes. The gallery is an important public and cultural center of the capital, hosting various events including tours, lectures, concerts and meetings with the subjects captured on the master's canvases.
