About museum
At the Smolensk Museum-Center the maritime history of the Smolensk region is presented — a land far from seas and oceans but connected to them by rivers. Since the time of Peter I, the people of Smolensk have made significant contributions to the formation and development of the Russian Navy, as well as to naval aviation. Here you can see exhibits, paintings and sculptural portraits, naval flags, and models of ships, airplanes and helicopters donated to the museum by V. K. Lapin. You can learn about the maritime history of the Smolensk region and take part in various events. The center tells the story of the region's rich maritime history and of the dynasties of Smolensk nobility who contributed greatly to the development of the Russian fleet and naval aviation. You can also see the first pilots and the first cosmonaut, Y. A. Gagarin, who began his service in the Northern Fleet. In the center-museum you can feel the atmosphere of the Smolensk region's maritime history.
Visitors will be able to get acquainted with the maritime history of the Smolensk region and take part in interesting events.
