S. V. Kovalevskaya Memorial Estate Museum
About museum
Polibino Museum is the only museum in Russia dedicated to Sofia Vasilyevna Kovalevskaya — an outstanding woman mathematician. It is located in the former estate of her father, Vasily Vasilievich Korvin-Krukovsky. The house, built to a design by A. P. Bryullov in the mid-19th century, has been preserved here. In the memorial wing there is an exhibition dedicated to Kovalevskaya's life and work. It displays the mathematician's personal belongings, including books from her library, personal documents, clothing and portraits of ancestors. In another room there is an exhibition "19th-Century Aristocratic Fashion," where you can see original lithographs and ladies' items such as opera glasses, purses, a nail file, hairpins and floor vases. All this allows visitors to get to know Kovalevskaya not only as a scientist, but also as a writer and as a woman.
