D. A. Furmanov Memorial Museum
About museum
The building was constructed in the second half of the 19th century; in 1958 the local history museum of the town of Furmanov was opened there. In 1960 the museum received the title 'People's', and the building was taken under state protection as a monument of federal significance. In 1968 it was transformed into a state museum and became part of the Ivanovo Regional Museum of Local Lore. In 2005 the museum was reopened after a long period of ten years. The exhibition 'Sereda. A View from the 21st Century' is devoted to the history of the town at the end of the 19th — beginning of the 20th centuries. It presents a panorama of regional life with its political and social upheavals. The museum includes a memorial room of the Furmanov family, where D. A. Furmanov was born and spent his childhood. The exhibition features originals, documents, paintings, household items, rare books, clothing, photographs and the writer's personal letters. Various events are held at the museum, including musical salons and poetry evenings. Museum lessons for students are conducted taking into account their age and psychological characteristics.
