Museum and Exhibition Center of the city of Serpukhov
About museum
In 1995, the Museum and Exhibition Center was opened in the center of the old Moscow-region town of Serpukhov; it occupies approximately 900 sq. m. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, allowing up to five exhibitions to be held simultaneously, and also enables the organization of fairs, festivals and other large-scale projects. The basis for the interactive ethnographic exhibition 'The World of the Russian Village' is a unique collection of household items from the late 19th–early 20th centuries that belonged to collector A. P. Murtsev. From this collection, visitors learn about the traditional festive culture of the Russian people, the layout and domestic life of the Russian izba, traditional Russian costume, men's and women's crafts, and the working life of the village. Since 2006 a permanent exhibition, the 'Museum of the Peacock', has been on display, dedicated to the history of the coat of arms of the city of Serpukhov, where visitors can learn about the origin of the city and its coat of arms, as well as explore myths, fairy tales, and works of art about the peacock.
