Nogliksky Municipal Local History Museum
About museum
In 1982 a district museum was established, whose main materials consisted of exhibits from the school museum. Five years later, on July 1, 1987, the museum obtained the status of a branch of the Sakhalin Regional Local History Museum and was renamed the Nogliksky Historical and Ethnographic Museum. In 1990, which was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the district, the institution was moved to the building where, in 1930, the First Native Congress of the Peoples of the North was held. In 1997 the museum was closed for major repairs and relocated to the former 'Vostok' Palace of Culture building. It now has an exhibition area of 242.7 sq. m. A wide range of activities take place at the museum: there is a club for people aged 45 to 80 called 'Nivkhinka', as well as a circle for studying the Uilta language 'Silei sekkure'. Thanks to close cooperation between the museum and village residents, there has been a noticeable growth in ethnic self-awareness, which makes it possible to preserve the traditions of the older generation and pass them on to the young.
