V.D. Polenov's Studio "The Abbey"
About museum
The Abbey is the second studio of the Russian painter Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov, built to his design in 1904. It features elements of Romanesque and Gothic styles and includes a studio, a study, an attic space, and other rooms where theatrical props, scenery, and costumes were stored. In 1958 the building was damaged by fire, after which it was used for a long time to display a diorama. Restoration was carried out in 1977–1980, after which the building regained its original appearance. Today visitors can see the artist's working environment, the family's theatrical traditions, dolls made by Natalia Vasilievna Polenova, and memorial photographs. Thus, the Abbey is an integral part of Russian history and culture.
