Maloyaroslavets Military-Historical Museum of 1812
About museum
In 1939 the Maloyaroslavets Military-Historical Museum of 1812 was opened, dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Battle of Maloyaroslavets. It was under the direction of school teacher Alexander Yefimovich Dmitriev. It was located in the Nikolayevsky Cathedral of the Nikolayevsky Chernoostrovsky Monastery. After the fascist occupation in 1941 the museum was moved to a building erected by battle participant F. M. Maksimov in 1860 to commemorate the fallen soldiers. It consists of three buildings, which house two exhibitions: 'The Battle of Maloyaroslavets. 1812' and 'County Town Maloyaroslavets. 1912'. In the building of the former chapel a diorama 'The Battle of Maloyaroslavets 12/24 October 1812' is presented. The exhibition viewing is accompanied by P. I. Tchaikovsky's overture '1812' and sound effects. Thus, the museum and the mass graves form a single historical-memorial complex located on the battlefield.
