Kursk Regional Planetarium
About museum
At the initiative of the director of the Kursk Regional Museum of Local Lore, N. P. Bushuev, a planetarium was established in the city. In 1966 the first director, V. V. Perminov, was appointed. Over its half-century history the planetarium's location changed several times, and it is currently housed in the former Noble Assembly building. The Kursk Regional Planetarium is the only institution of its kind in the Central Black Earth region. It actively promotes the dissemination of scientific knowledge in astronomy, space science, geography, and biology. The planetarium hosts vivid, spectacular shows demonstrating the starry sky, the movements of the Sun, Moon and other planets, as well as rare and extraordinary natural phenomena. Over the years the planetarium has held more than 50,000 lectures, attended by over 1,300,000 people. The most popular topics are: 'Structure of the Universe', 'Structure of the Solar System', 'The World of Stars and Galaxies', 'The Sky and Constellations', 'Unusual Celestial Phenomena', 'Time and the Calendar'.
