Local History Museum named after the Zhernoklyovs
About museum
The Maykop District Local History Museum traces its origins to 1952, when schoolchildren under the guidance of enthusiastic teachers Ivan Vladimirovich and Ekaterina Ivanovna Zhernoklyov collected the first exhibits at the Pioneer House in the settlement of Tulsky. These were fossils: a fragment of a mastodon tusk and a moose skull, as well as stone tools found in the Dakhovskaya Cave. Today the museum bears the name of its founders — the Zhernoklyovs. It presents the history of the district, including ancient ammonite shells, swords, sabers, shashkas, arrowheads, items of Cossack everyday life, photographs of Cossacks, and even exhibits from the Great Patriotic War (World War II). The natural history section showcases the region's fauna and flora. Visitors to the museum can explore the diverse history and natural environment of the Maykop District.
