Korochansky District Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
In 1994 the Korochansky District Historical and Local Lore Museum was established. The building provided for it was built at the end of the 19th century by Korochansky townsman Mikhail Vladimirovich Goltsev. The museum's collection included exhibits from the Korochanskaya Secondary School museum, purchased by the local administration, as well as gifts from residents of the town and district. Today the museum consists of three exhibition halls, a methodological office and a storage depository and contains 5,500 items. The front room displays the crafts and trades of the Korochansky uyezd. The first introductory hall presents exhibits reflecting the history of the region's development from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century. The second hall contains exhibits related to the heroic past of the locals; the third is a household room representing the daily life of the two main social estates of the Korochansky uyezd's inhabitants. The museum allows visitors to fully acquaint themselves with the history and culture of the Korochansky District.
