About museum

1986 was a significant year for the Bezhanitsy region: that year the Bezhanitsy Museum of History and Local Lore was opened. In 2004, on its basis the Bezhanitsky Filosofov Historical and Cultural Center, located in a nobleman's mansion, was established. On December 26, 2005, the center was registered as a legal entity. The museum features exhibitions dedicated to the history and cultural heritage of the noble Filosofov family, the history of the Bezhanitsy region, the daily life of peasants in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the region's nature and the Polistovsky Nature Reserve. The museum's main collection consists of more than 2,000 items, including unique collections of memorial objects, handwoven linen products, and paleontological finds. The Bezhanitsky Historical and Cultural Center organizes an international scientific conference, the "Filosofov Readings", after which conference proceedings are published.
