Kolomna Local History Museum
About museum
On August 25, 1932, the Kolomna local history museum exhibition began its activities in the Marinkina Tower of the Kremlin. In 1936 the museum was moved to the building of the Church of the Archangel Michael, which was specially rebuilt for the historical and local history exhibition. In the 1930s the foundations of modern Kolomna archaeology were laid, and long-term expeditions and searches were conducted. The museum became a center of scientific and educational work in the city and district. In 2006 the administration of the Kolomna urban district assigned to the museum a 19th-century merchant estate complex, which is a monument of history and culture of regional significance. At the end of 2011 a new exhibition was opened under the Federal Target Program 'Culture of Russia (2006–2011)', featuring a hall called 'Nature and Ancient Man'. The museum now conducts group and individual tours, theatrical and interactive programs on a variety of themes for everyone. Thus, the Kolomna Local History Museum has become accessible and interesting to visitors.
