K. S. Petrov-Vodkin Art Gallery
About museum
In 1960 the Khvalynsk Local History Museum received as a gift the former house of A. N. Radishchev's great-grandchildren, built in 1877. K. S. Petrov-Vodkin lived in this house until the Revolution. In 1961 a picture gallery was established there, and in 1964 it was named after K. S. Petrov-Vodkin at the initiative of V. A. Favorsky. In 1931 the artist himself donated the painting "The Artist's Family" to the museum. Over the next 70 years the collection was gradually supplemented with works by K. S. Petrov-Vodkin, Khvalynsk artists and prominent Russian masters (P. Kuznetsova, E. Bebutova, A. Lentulov, N. Romadin, V. Popkov). In 1997 the picture gallery and the K. S. Petrov-Vodkin House-Museum were merged into the K. S. Petrov-Vodkin Art and Memorial Museum, which is a branch of the Saratov State Art Museum named after A. N. Radishchev. Today the collection includes paintings, graphics, archival materials, decorative and applied arts objects, and sculptures by artists from various regions.
