About museum
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Museum of Industry and Art in the city of Ivanovo-Voznesensk became one of the best museums in provincial Russia. It was founded by the Ivanovo-Voznesensk manufacturer, collector, philanthropist and educator Dmitry Gennadievich Burylin. The museum was established at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, a period when the idea of public education was actively promoted in Russia. Dmitry Gennadievich Burylin sought to bring world culture closer to the Russian provinces, assembling his collection from ethnographic items, paintings, antiquities and contemporary works. The unique museum also exhibited items collected by Dmitry Gennadievich's grandfather, Diodor Andreyevich Burylin, including early printed books and old coins. In this way, Dmitry Gennadievich Burylin revealed to the city's inhabitants the full richness of world culture.
